FAQ

What is Powder Coating?

Powder coating has become extremely popular since its introduction in North America over 40 year ago. Powder coating is now used on a variety of different products from industrial equipment, outdoor furniture, fences & gates, automobiles & more. Companies request powder coating when a highest-quality, and most durable finish is needed. The coating is more than functional since it is available in an almost limitless range of colors.

Powder coating is a dry finishing process that adds superior durability to a finished product. The process begins by thoroughly cleaning the product that is to be finished. Most often, this is accomplished through sandblasting. Application involves a spray gun, which applies an electrostatic charge to the powder particles. These particles are attracted to the grounded product.  After applying the powder, the product is placed in an oven where it is heated to temperatures that range from 320 to 410 degrees, depending on the powder used.

What Products Can Be Powder Coated?

Mild steel, galvanized and electroplated steel, aluminum, stainless steel, and most other steel alloys can be powder coated.

All items must be disassembled before being brought in to be powder coated.

Paint vs. Powder Coating

The benefits of custom powder coating greatly excede those of custom paint.

What size is our oven?

42'x8'x8' but in reality, it has to be smaller than ~41.5'x7.5'x7.5' to fit on the cart to go inside our oven.

Are we able to sandblast and/or how do we clean items before powder coating?

Our standard cleaning includes an alkaline cleaner for steel or a Micro-Particulate Fractionalization cleaner for aluminum with a basic rinse along with minimal sanding needed before powdering. If excess sanding is needed, this will cost extra. We can SANDBLAST if needed, but we cannot strip paint or rust off items with chemical cleaners. We are able to blast some aluminum items now dependent upon size (roughly 58" x 28" x 34"). We can sometimes powder over the current powder depending on the current condition, current color, and color desired.

What is our warranty?

Due to the nature of our business, we are unable to warranty items. We will correct and redo obvious errors on our end (not reimburse), but powder coating, while more durable than standard painting, is NOT indestructible. Powder will come off if hit with a hard object. Rust will appear when items are not fully seal welded or when there is excess oil inside the item being dropped off. We can only get so much powder inside tight areas, deep holes, or tiny spaces between the metal. Chrome powder does fade in the sun. Over time, saltwater can eat away at powder as well.

Can we do ceramic coating?

At this time, we are unable to do ceramic coating.

What is our house minimum?

$50 - contact us for your specific quote today
(this is not per item, this is per drop off as long as all items are going the same color - we are sometimes able to combine with other items to reduce this minimum as long as it is a basic color).
